Parkinson’s Queensland is excited to have Anna Nolan discuss how deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery is a proven therapy to treat medically refractory Essential Tremor, Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Dystonia. The surgery involves placement of electrodes into deep brain nuclei and subsequent stimulation of the nuclei to alleviate symptoms associated with these diseases. Many factors are important in determining the success of the surgery including patient selection, accurate identification of targets and electrode placement, and appropriate DBS programming.
Anna will also discuss outcomes of the audit regarding DBS surgeries performed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), Brisbane during the period 1 January 2017 – 22 October 2019.
