Jet set! DJ Madonna heads to the World Parkinson’s Congress!
Since Madonna Brady was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s in 2012, she has been an active member of the Brisbane, Australian and international Parkinson’s community, including becoming a DJ for the Parkinson’s web based radio station, Radio Parkies. Madonna was the first Radio Parkies DJ in the Southern Hemisphere and broadcasts two shows a week on Radioparkies.com. Madonna enjoys many genres of music and was excited with the unexpected opportunity to DJ and share inspiring, interesting and informative stories with the world. This September, she and her husband Matt head to the World Parkinson’s Congress (WPC) in Portland, Orgegon (USA) to represent the Australian division of Radio Parkies. Madonna will be DJ’ing live during WPC, alongside other Radio Parkies DJ’s from the USA, Romania, England and Belgium.
Madonna has previously attended the Congress in 2013 in Montreal. At the 2016 Congress, she and Matt will be running a poster presentation and information booth for Radio Parkies, similar to her presentation in 2013 on Living Well with Parkinson’s. This year, as in 2013, Madonna’s poster has been designed and donated by Brisbane graphic designer David Law, whose father also has Parkinson’s. Along with Radio Parkies, Madonna has been involved in many Parkinson’s focused initiatives, including Dance for Parkinson’s, PD Warrior, QUT Health Clinics Gym, and The New Voice Choir. Additionally, Madonna founded Parkinson’s Queensland’s ‘Young at Park’ Brisbane, a social support group for people with Parkinson’s of all ages.
In 2015, Madonna was elected onto the board of Parkinson’s Queensland and has enjoyed her time thus far working for the organisation and for people with Parkinson’s. She and Matt live with their three daughters, two cats and Indy the Kerry BlueTerrier who sometimes guest stars on the radio show. Madonna believes that, along with her medication, being involved in the community and keeping active is the best medicine for living well with Parkinson’s long term.
The 4th World Parkinson’s Congress runs from the 20th – 23rd September in Portland, Oregon and more information can be found on their website: http://www.wpc2016.org/.
