World Parkinson’s Day

April 11

World Parkinson’s Day (Thursday 11th April 2024)

To recognise World Parkinson’s Day on Thursday 11th April, Parkinson’s Queensland is lighting up iconic buildings and landmarks across Queensland Purple for Parkinson’s awareness. World Parkinson’s Day aims to raise awareness of the impacts of Parkinson’s on the 18,000+ Queenslanders affected by Parkinson’s. Purple is globally recognised as the colour representing Parkinson’s disease, and by lighting up landmarks in purple, we symbolise our unity and support for the Parkinson’s community, whilst also acknowledging the challenges individuals affected by Parkinson’s and their families or carers endure daily. This Parkinson’s Awareness initiative represents our collective hope for a brighter future for those affected by Parkinson’s, a condition for which there is currently no cure.

We encourage you to observe World Parkinson’s Day by visiting the nearest building or landmark from the below list and share your images with us, either online, or emailing them to community@parkinsonsqld.org.au. You may tag us on Facebook and Instagram ( @ParkinsonsQLD ) and use the hashtags #PurpleforParkinsons and #WorldParkinsonsDay

With an increasing number of landmarks glowing  purple across the state, we can reach and educate more individuals about Parkinson’s and make Parkinson’s a priority in Queensland.
